This Blaufränkisch, in its pure, varietal form, is relatively new to the Pöckl range – nevertheless it has proven to be a real Pöckl! It’s smacks of strong colour, lots of concentrated fruit and distinctive tannins.
The vines are planted on perfect heavy loam soils.
After fermentation the wine matures in used barriques for 11 months.

CRITIC RATINGS
"Juicy, multifaceted, well-integrated acidity structure.. a versatile style with good ageing potential." (Peter Moser, Weinguide Österreich 2022/23)91 Falstaff
The nose reveals concentrated blackberry confit and a fine spice of tobacco and balsamic vinegar. On the palate, the wine shows ripe, dark cherries, subtle oak notes, and well-integrated, ripe tannins. The finish adds a refreshing salty minerality. It’s drinking beautifully now, but can age for another decade or so.
Pairs well with steaks, goose, veal-schnitzel or dishes flavoured with chili.
