Chardonnay has been grown in Burgenland for nearly 900 years, brought by Cistercian monks from Burgundy around 1150. When planted on limestone soils, it can produce some of the world’s best wines. It is exactly such limestone that Chardonnay is planted on the Leithagebirge.
Ried Gloria, first mentioned in 1570, is the highest single-vineyard site of the Leithagebirge, a site which gives this wine a marked minerality and finesse. The vines are planted on loam over limestone.
The grapes are selectively hand harvested, then fermented and ripened in small barrels of French oak with 12 months on the lees. There is further ripening for 6 months in stainless steel tanks. Yield is 30 hl/ha.

CRITIC RATINGS
"Juicy, multifaceted, well-integrated acidity structure.. a versatile style with good ageing potential." (Peter Moser, Weinguide Österreich 2022/23)96 Falstaff
98 James Suckling
The nose reveals light touches of nougat, vanilla, yellow stone fruits, fresh golden apples and hazelnut. The palate is full-bodied, elegant, and complex, and delivers fine acidity alongside white fruit and a long, satisfying, piquant lemon finish that is mineral and saline. A wine with good ageing potential.
Pairs well with seafood, shellfish and pasta dishes.
