Ried Scheibner is situated at a relatively high 220 metres elevation and acts as a buffer between the vineyards Aubühel and Bärnreiser in Höflein. Together with its gentle easterly exposure, the enclosed shape of the land grants particularly good protection from the wind. These factors provide warm, dry and perfect conditions for the Pinot family.
The soils are also perfect for Pinot Noir, with a high proportion of limestone in the sub soils, while the surface is covered with sandy and gravelly loam, with some loess in places.
Harvesting commences from the beginning of September, with the grapes harvested by hand in multiple passes. The fermentation is spontaneous, on the skins, at 27–29°C in wooden vats, followed by malolactic conversion in the barrels. The wine is then aged for 16 months in Burgundian barriques and 500L casks.

CRITIC RATINGS
94 FalstaffA concentrated aromatic profile of liquorice, rose, cloves and black pepper. The wine is very intense and concentrated on the palate, with more dark berry fruits and dark spice. The ripe and fine-grained tannins are beautifully balanced by refreshing acidity leaving a sumptuously silky finish.
Perfect for sautéed porcinis with parsley, wild fowl with strong spices and for ripe cheeses.
